Retinal Imaging

Digital retinal imaging is used to take pictures of the inside of your eye using a high-resolution imaging system. We use this technology at Coastal Eye Care to assess the health of your retina and to detect and manage eye and health conditions including glaucoma, diabetes, and macular degeneration. Early discovery of retinal disorders is highly critical and can help prevent serious disease progression or even total loss of vision.

Retinal Imaging is not just an important tool for detecting eye and health diseases, but serves as a permanent and historical record of changes in your eye. Every year, these images can be directly compared to one another which can expose even the most subtle changes in the eye. As such, we recommend an annual retinal image be taken for each of our patients.

Furthermore, the use of retinal imaging at Coastal Eye Care is in perfect alignment with one of our core values, strong doctor-patient communication. Retinal images facilitate the ability of our experienced optometrist, Dr. Andrew Cormier, to educate you about your health and wellness. Dr. Cormier will review your picture with you thoroughly and you will have a clear understanding of anything revealed by the retinal image.
